The values of hospitality, welcome and community permeate the way we communicate. We see the wider community, especially our learners and families, as partners in the educational journey. We are committed to open communication and here at EMPSS we strive to keep our lines of communication friendly, open, and available.
What this means is we make an effort to ensure our school community can easily access up-to-date school information electronically. Keeping informed with what is happening here at EMPSS by reading the bi-weekly school newsletter or regularly visiting our website are some of the easiest ways to stay involved with your student's activities at school.
Newsletter
Our school newsletter is emailed to parents via ePublisher. This is a fortnightly update of what is happening here at school and one of your BEST sources of information regarding school activities.
Our Website
On our school website you will find a glimpse of EMPSS. This is a site specifically designed to show the public what a great community we are and highlight some of our educational and community achievements.
www.eightmileplainsss.eq.edu.au
Facebook
EMPSS has an official school operated Facebook page as well as the P&C Facebook page. There is also a parent administered EMPSS Facebook group which all parents are invited to join.
School Calendar
The school calendar is located on the school website www.eightmileplainsss.eq.edu.au. Parents can find up to date information about events and activities that are occurring across each term via the Upcoming Events section in the Newsletter. Dates can change regularly so parents are asked to regularly check the Newsletter to ensure they are up to date with what is happening.
Email
Your teacher may have already given you their email address. If not, staff emails can be found on the school website. Of course, you can always contact the school directly on 3340 6333 or admin@eightmileplainsss.eq.edu.au if you have questions or concerns.
Your teacher may email class specific information to you on a regular basis. Our Administration team will also email important notices about whole school events to parents and caregivers.
Assessment and Reporting
Assessment is an integral part of every EMPSS classroom. It is the process through which teachers identify, gather and interpret information about student achievement and learning. Teachers use this information to report to parents and plan for future learning. Teachers collect information both during, and
at the end of each term and semester.
EMPSS teachers use a variety of assessment tools including teacher observation, student/teacher consultation, focused analysis (examining specific details of student's demonstrations of learning), data monitoring tools, formative assessment tools, standardised testing and peer and self-assessments. Through
using a range and balance of assessment techniques our teachers gather valuable data for all their learners.
EMPSS teachers are committed to an open-door philosophy. Parents are invited to contact their child's class teacher whenever they have a concern and/or want more information regarding their child's learning.
Interviews
Parent/Teacher interviews are offered twice a year (Term 1 and Term 3) to report and discuss student progress and achievement.
Written
A summative report is issued at the end of First and Second Semester.
